Today is the last day of my 10 day vacation from work. My dog did pretty much what she is doing above for the whole vacation, except for a few walks around the block. I really did have a nice time through it all. My husband was home with me most of the time so we had alot of time together. We stayed up late, slept in late (9:30am for me most days, that is late for me). I took my dog to the dog park, hit CVS a few times, cleaned the house, put up holiday decorations, organized and threw out expired coupons, ate lots of food (well too much), watched tv, played on the computer, sent another payment to the credit card, grocery shopped, and finished up my Christmas shopping. And I stayed in our budget for the whole vacation.

The most annoying part of my vacation came on Friday went I went to shampoo the rugs in my house using my faithful Bissel cleaner I have had for at least 7 years, probably more. I was filling up the one tank with hot water. I looked down to see a part has broken on the rug shampoo dispenser and all the shampoo I had left that was in the machine had run out into the sink. I have no clue how I can fix this and I am not going to spend the money to buy another one right now. So all I could do is dry vacuum the carpet as normal. I will have to see if it is worth it to get it fixed or borrow my mom's until I have the money to get another one.

So in about an hour I have to go in the kitchen and make my lunch for work tomorrow, get up at 4:30am to exercise before I hit my normal rush hour traffic and sit at my cubicle for 10 hours. I will try not to be too sad, I am very grateful I have a good job.

Hope your holidays was a good one.

This is the most shopping I have ever done out of the house on Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Did I hit Walmart, Target, Best Buy, etc.? NO WAY!

I hit CVS of course. CVS is having a special 3 day sale with tons of things free after your extra care bucks. And I lucked out in my last trip to CVS I scanned my card and got a fantastic coupon for $10 off of a purchase of $50 or more. I have never gotten one of these. So I got my deal all ready the night before.

My CVS opened at 7am on Thanksgiving, so I got up dreary eyed at 6:30am and drove on over. I went into the store at 7am with one other soul there to do the 3 day CVS deals with me. Whew what a crowd!! They had everything I wanted to get and I made out like a bandit and no pushing, shoving or sleeping overnight with crazy people to do so.

When I left with my 8 mile long receipt and all my extra care bucks I saw on the receipt that two of the things I got weren't just a limit of one they were a limit of two. So I went home took a nice two hour nap and got up again to do one more deal. Back to CVS and still they had plenty of everything. I got those two things I hadn't hit my limit on and a few extra's I passed up on the first time.

My take

3 Gatorades
2 Aussie Hair products
1 Johnson & Johnson lotion
2 boxes of Playtex
1 Schick Trimmer
1 Sally Hanson nail polish
1 Covergirl foundation
1 Covergirl pressed powder
2 Colgate toothpastes
2 Bic Soleil razors
1 Hershey bar
2 L'Oreal lip colour
1 Garnier towelettes

My total oop for both trips was $3.00, I used a bunch of coupons, about $30 something in ECB's and got back $60.00 in ECB's I doubled my extra care bucks!!!! I hope they do this every year.

So when I got up this morning my plan as I said was not to go over to crazy Walmart for some ridiculous electronics. I woke up around 9:30am and headed back on over to CVS to just buy some stuff with some of those ECB's I earned. I didn't care this time about earning more bucks back, I just wanted to knock off some presents and just get some things I wanted.

All this below was .52 out of pocket, used about $30 in ECB's and I still earned $5.00 in ECB's back on the bag I bought, and I didn't even know it was a deal.

3 Whitman samplers (well I did have coupons on these, so I got them for $1.99 each, the will go in the gift bags for my mother in law, sister in law and friend)
1 vanilla extract (I used it all up baking over the last few days)
1 bag of tea lights (I had used up all of mine since the cold weather came)
4 cans of cat food (I ran out yesterday and wasn't going for more till the weekend, so I had to get some to tide us over, so you will notice one can is already gone, the cats couldn't wait)
1 Essence of Beauty bag - a gift for my mom, don't worry she doesn't know how to use the Internet, a great bag that came with some great stuff, it was $14.99 with 5 ECB's back.

My digital camera sucking the life out of any batteries I put in it, really put a damper on me having this blog. I hate not having original pictures to put up, so I guess it just made me feel like I didn't want to post.

But I am on vacation at home this week and I have a cold and I decided I am not going to let that stupid camera get in my way. So when I need pictures, I just put the batteries in the camera, take the pictures real quick, transfer them to my computer and then take them out again.

I had quite a great take on deals this weekend. SuperFresh is having their triple coupons and this is a great way to stock up lots of stuff for cheap. I highly recommend that if you have a store nearby that does it, do not pass it up. Pull any coupon you have for under 1.00, make a list of what those q's are and take both with you to the store along with a calculator. Remember a 75 cent coupon triples to $2.25 off one item, that is a great savings.

I went twice over the weekend, a first for me, but I am glad I did cause my 2nd trip was even better than my first. The pictures I took were not of everything I got, just some of it.

1st trip

Chicken thighs (managers special) $2.10
3 Daisy sour cream $1.00 each - .55q tripled = .54 overage on each one!!!
2 Coconut Milk $1.49 each - .75q off two tripled = .74 for both
3 Ziploc Sandwich bags $2.49 each - .55q tripled = .84 each
3 Muir Glen Diced tomatoes $2.19 each - .75q tripled = .06 overage on each one!!!
2 Lipton Vegetable Soup Mix $1.79 each - 75q off two tripled = $1.33 for both
2 Keebler Ready Pie Crusts $1.50 each - .25q tripled = .75 each
1 Orville Red. 10 pk Popcorn $3.99 - .75q tripled = $1.74 for a 10 pk
1 Bertolli Pasta Sauce $1.99 - .75q tripled = .26 overage!
4 Minute Rice Microwavables $1.89 each - .40q tripled = .69 each
4 Whiskas Temptations Cat Treats $1.69 each - .50q tripled = .19 each
1 Pedigree Good Bites dog treats $3.99 - FREE Good Bites Q = FREE
3 Suave Deodorants $1.69 each - .75q tripled = .56 overage

I added a few other non q things in there. My original total after the sales but before the q's was $67.57. After everything I paid $21.55. Not bad at all.

2nd trip.

5 boxes of Hot Pockets 5 for $10.00 - 50q tripled = .50 each
4 Bertolli Pasta sauce $1.99 each - .75q tripled = .26 overage!
3 Whiskas Temptations Cat Treats $1.69 each - 50q tripled = .19 each
4 Suave Deodorants $1.69 each - .75q tripled = .56 overage!
3 Fresh Express Tender Leaf Salads $2.99 each - .75q tripled = .74 each
3 Kleenex with lotion $1.33 each - .40q tripled = .13 each
2 Thai Kitchen Soups $1.50 each - 50q tripled = FREE
4 Fiber One Pastry $2.59 each - .70q tripled = .49 each
4 Celestial Seasoning Teas $2.00 each - 55q tripled = .35 each

Original total after the sales but before the q's was $66.74, total after q's was $10.63

CAN I GET SOME LOVE FROM THE AUDIENCE??!! I love when they have triples.

When I lost my weight, I must have gotten asked at work a hundred times "What is your secret?" This would annoy me to no end. I know they were looking for me to give them some pill or shake that would just knock off all of their weight. So when I told them I lost it the "good old fashioned way", by diet and exercise, they would give me a look of disappointment and then half heartily say "Well good for you".

Alot of people just don't want to do the work to lose and keep off the weight. Well here is my secret "THERE IS NO OTHER WAY, GET OVER IT". Sorry, had to get that off my chest. But I do have some tips that may seem simple but really have been the key to me losing and keeping off the weight and I really feel would help others.

Exercise - You must and I repeat, you must find a form of exercise that you like or can very much tolerate. If you despise running on a treadmill with a passion, don't make that your exercise. If you love to play basketball, play it, and play it several days a week. The only way you are going to keep the interest is if you do some form of exercise that at least slightly entertains you. I don't like playing sports for exercise. I actually like jogging and going on machines to work out. However if I go out jogging I must have my Ipod on and if I go on a machine I must have a TV to watch. Having a DVD player with your TV and a nice collection of your favorite shows and movies makes that 15 minutes, 30 minutes or 45 minutes of exercise fly by. Staring at a wall while you are on a treadmill will make it feel like days.

Diet - Finding foods that are good for you and low in crap but fill you up. Most people as soon as they go on a diet, and I hate that word, cut out everything they normally eat and just eat salads and yogurts. Then they are hungry 10 minutes later. This isn't going to work and isn't going to last. I know now from doing this for a long time what fills me and satisfies me and what doesn't. I will not bring a salad to work for lunch, cause my 3pm I will be gnawing on my desk. So you are going to have to try some things until you find a nice repertoire that works for you.

Some of my foods that really fill me up.

Breakfasts - I love to have Carnation Instant Breakfast, frozen bananas and skim milk in the blender to make a frosty and creamy shake.

Snacks - my mid-morning snack is usually a yogurt (that does work for me), or a cereal bar. Curves makes a great strawberries and cream bar that really satisfies me.

Lunch - A Boca Burger (see picture) with fat free cheese, lettuce, tomato on a wheat hamburger bun.
Big bowl of brown rice, with low fat butter and soy sauce
Egg whites with cheese and tomatoes
Italian Wedding soup with toast

Mid Afternoon Snack - a ziplock bag of dry cereal
Banana and granola bar

Dinner - Dinner, I actually have whatever we are just making that day. But I only have one dish of it, no seconds. I work out 6 days a week so I have my metabolism up enough to not have to deprive myself of what I want for dinner.

Dessert - I am the Queen Of Sugar. I'm serious. I don't do drugs and I rarely drink anymore, so sugar is my vice and one of the loves of my life. I have to have a dessert at the end of the day or I will slowly lose my mind before going to bed. My favorite dessert is ice cream. Breyers, Edy's, Turkey Hill (the local ice creams in my are) all make Slow Churned Light ice creams now. And take it from someone who has tried her fair share of light ice creams and hated them, these new ones are fantastic. They have half the fat and calories of regular ice cream and taste great. They key with light ice creams is to not overindulge on them or you are just doing the same damage as eating the regular stuff. So to combat this I always eat my ice cream on a cone instead of a bowl. It keeps your portions down and the cone fills you up too.

And drinks lots of water.

2 1/2 years ago I had a light go off in my head, and I decided to finally shed some weight I had been carrying around. I still can't completely remember why it, but I just snapped one day. It took me a around 9 months to lose 35 lbs the good old fashioned way, exercising and eating better. At the end I was able to fit into size 8 jeans and felt great and had tons of energy.

I had, and I say had managed to keep it off for most of the time. In the last 3-4 months I have been slipping on the exercising. I think I actually started to get bored with my routine and got so busy with other things that I let it slip. I believe I gained back about 10 of those pounds. I don't know for sure as I stopped weighing myself a few months ago, when I was getting too obsessive at trying to stay at the same number. Thankfully my healthy eating didn't change that much, so that kept it only at around 10 lbs of gained weight.

I have worked so hard lately at getting our finances under control, working on our debt, cutting coupons, making meals, hanging up laundry and working full time of course I let the exercising lapse. When I first started, I would exercise at night, but I found that it was easier to do in the morning, get it out of the way and have the evening to myself after work. I even got into jogging on the weekends and thought about one day running a marathon.

This past week I started back at exercising in the morning. I can't say its fun to do it at 5am, but I still think it is better than 7:30pm. However, I started running in place in our living room so I could watch TV while doing it. I don't think it is enough. Its not generating enough sweat out of me, nor getting my heartbeat up. So I must give in and go back to the routine that got me in tip top shape. I will go back down my basement on my elliptical machine for 30 minutes and sweat, and watch The Girls Next Door on DVD. I swear I know every episode by heart.

I don't plan to weigh myself at all. But I do have a pair of pants that got a little snug after the 10lbs. So I know when they fit better again I am back at my peak. So I will be back to give updates and some information on what I do and eat to stay healthy.

In my ever lasting quest now to find more frugal ways to do things and save money. I have come across some great sites, where you can make alot of house products and food from scratch. I get so excited to try some of these things but my fear is the reaction from the man in my house.

He wouldn't mind at all if I made homemade pancakes, waffles, muffins, bread, etc. He is used to me baking from my baking blog days and loves it. But I think he was ready to put me in a mental home when I mentioned that I wanted to try to make non-food items, like the homemade laundry detergent and homemade fabric softener recipes I found on the internet. I don't know why, as he probably hasn't touched a load of laundry in years.

As for cleaning products, I already have a huge stockpile of them from all the CVS'ing and ShopRite deals I have done. I have decided I have enough and am not going to buy anymore. Once I am out of them I am going to try to make them from scratch. Again, cleaning products, not something the man even goes near in my house (sorry Honey, you know its true).

Tonight I am going to try the homemade syrup recipe I got from this great new site, Grocery Cart Challenge. I don't think he will mind. We don't use syrup very often and this will probably make us a nice batch to last for months. Will have to let you know how it goes.

Now if I try to make homemade toilet paper he will be taking measurements for my straight jacket.

Well still no digital camera. My poor little original pictureless blog. I am forced to use stock pictures for now.

For months it cost $36.00 to fill up my Chevy Cobalt. Last night it was only $25.00. Gas is down to $1.95/gallon here.

I also went to Walgreens for the first time to get their sugar and baking soda on sale. My first time there and I forgot to give the woman two coupons I had. So I paid a dollar more. Oh well. I probably won't go there much. It takes enough time out of me just doing CVS and Shoprite deals, so I really have to pick and choose my battles. Remember time is just as important as money.

Also I won a giveaway on Money Saving Mom. She has a great site, that has helped me out tremendously, so please check her out.

Still no camera. So not sure what to do. I couldn't even post my great buys at CVS and Shoprite yesterday. Plus I have a freezer full of fresh veggies now from a great trip to the produce market. Without pictures its just boring. I am going to check the warranty on my camera because it is not even a year old yet.

Also I have not reviewed the episode of The Office entitled Employee Transfer. We switched our cable DVR boxes and my sweet hubby forgot that that episode of The Office was on there, and I never got to write down my notes before it was gone for good. I hope to watch it soon off of Hulu and do the review.

I feel so sad without pictures.

My work costume. I have good taste.

Well, where shall I start. First the Phillies won the World Series and we were busy with that, then Halloween I have two parties to wear two separate costumes and food to make for those. Then the election happened and I think me and my husband were so happy about that we forgot about everything else.

I had a two day period where I hit a rough patch and was not in the mood to talk about frugal things. Don't worry that has passed. And to top it all off, my digital camera is not working well. It is sucking the life out of any type of battery I put in it within an hour. So I have no pictures I can take.

I did manage to make another pretty decent payment to credit card #3. We managed to stay within our budget the last two weeks. Since this was the first time we tried it, I was pretty impressed by us both. Now we move on to the next two weeks. The cooking from home is going well. I went to our local produce place today and loaded up on onions, potatoes, cilantro and bananas. I sliced them all up and froze them. With the leftover onions I am going to make enough onion rings to make me husband jump up and down with glee. (glee)

Our menu for the week:

Sunday - Mexican Pizza Squares (see picture above)
(a Pillsbury recipe) and my husband's request. This was a hit at the Halloween party we went to.

Monday - Marlboro Man Sandwich
This comes from my favorite of all time food sites The Pioneer Woman Cooks. She makes the greatest down home food and has beautiful pictures of each step.

Tuesday - Sausage and Potatoes Italiano
Betty Crocker recipe

Wednesday - Seasoned chicken thighs, potato fries and veggies

Thursday - Quesadillas

Friday - Pasta and sauce

Its the beginning of the month, and that means financial update. Here are my goals from September.

Short Term Financial Goals for 2008

1.) Credit Cards - I have paid off two already since September, and just sent a payment to the third one yesterday. Also I won a Halloween costume contest at work, so that $50.00 will go right to the card. Every little bit helps.

2.) Going with goal #1. To not use any more credit cards. These were cut up back in September and I haven't touched the two we have left since.

3.) Christmas kept under control. My husband and I have bought each other one semi-big present already and then everything else for each other we have a small budget we have to stick to. So far we will have cut the budget over 50%. As for my other presents, I have spent a whopping $17.25 on 7 people's gifts. I have one family member left to get. This part has been cut at least 75%. I don't need any new Christmas decorations. I have tons of stuff stocked up to make cookies and goodies. And the pets don't need new toys, they have a basket full of toys and would rather have twist ties and caps off the milk to play with.

4.) Drastically cut eating out. We have done great with this. We only go out once every two weeks to Starbucks for a chai latte and a muffin. We call this our "date. Otherwise we are always eating at home.

Other changes I have made and updates on those:

1.) Grocery budget - I am sticking pretty well with my $50 a week budget. I did have to go over it a little bit this week because SuperFresh had triple coupons, but I didn't go over very much. My freezer is full of meats so I use the $50 to get some staples and stock up on the sales for the winter.

2.) Recipes using what we have on stock. This has been working out fantastically. Great sites like Pillsbury.com and Campbell's Kitchen have great dinner recipes that don't take long. We have made chicken fried steak, Mexican pizza squares, All Day chicken, etc. I think we are actually eating better now than we ate when we would let something defrost and just put it on the grill.

3.) Coffee - Last week I brought a thermos of coffee everyday and it was great. I like to drink it on my drive to work. Today I didn't have time to bring it, so I am just drinking water. But I do miss the coffee, so I will have to bring it again tomorrow.

4.) Pet food - Like I had said before instead of me running to the store every week getting just enough cans for 7 days and buying the small bags every now and then with coupons. I went last week bought a big 20 lb bag of dry food and enough cans to last me at least 2 weeks. I have been much nicer and I think much cheaper to get as much of this as I can in bulk instead of making many trips. Remember time is as valuable as money.

How did you do this past month?

Last night was Halloween Hangover. Every year my husband and I and our two friends host a Halloween party to beat all Halloween parties. This year was the 10th anniversary of the party. So on top of all the Phillies celebrating we have all been getting ready for this party. My job is to make all the food and have a kick ass costume. I spent 6 1/2 hours yesterday making a Mexican feast. A good time was had by all. But we didn't get to bed until 3:30am.

And unlike my usual Sunday mornings where I have my CVS deals all written out the night before and ready to go, I hadn't even had a chance to look at the circular until I woke up at 10:30am. Luckily I found two deals right away and there wasn't too many more. So I didn't feel pressured to have to go more than once. I was very happy to get the gum, as my husband has been asking for it. And I got a small start on some of Christmas candy stock, made a good filler.

10 Icebreakers Gum $1.00 each = $10.00
1 Colgate Sonic Power 360 Brush $4.99
1 box candy canes .77

Total $15.76

Coupons
(5) $1.00 off 2 Icebreakers gum or mints
(1) $1.00 off Colgate powered toothbrush
(1) $2.00 off any Colgate powered toothbrush (CVS coupon)
(1) $3.00 off any purchase of $15.00 at CVS

ECB's used $3.60
Total oop $1.56
ECB's earned $7.00

We see in the cold open that Michael has gotten Pam a part time job at Dunder Mifflin corporate, because NY is expensive and Pam has run out of money while at art school. But she pays the price for the favor, because Michael now has a place to get a hold of her, and ask her all sorts of stupid questions and say "Pamela" in his Ricola voice.

Michael and Holly are dating and boy are they really dating. The banter between them is amazing, she really is his equal.

Michael "When can I see you again?"
Holly "Tonight. I'm free tonight. Is that too eager? I don't care. I'm free tonight"

Finally a woman who doesn't play any games.

Michael then plans their 3rd date, which he says is traditionally the one where you have sex.

Michael "Does Holly feel that way? I don't know. I will probably find out tonight. If she starts having sex with me I'll know for sure". That sounds like a sure fire way to know.

Andy hands out save the date announcements for Angela and his wedding. Dwight turns to Phyllis for help on winning Angela back after she reminds him she knows they are having an affair.

Holly and Michael discussing their date tonight.

Michael "Some of what we order would depend on whether we are having sex after".
Uncomfortable laughter from both.
Michael "Wow, elephant in the room.......Are we, do you think we are going to have sex tonight?"
Holly "Hell yeah."

Again no games. I love her!!!

Dwight tells Phyllis about his relationship to Angela.

Dwight "She introduced me to so many things - pasteurized milk, sheets, monotheism, presents on your birthday, preventative medicine".

Sheets? I really don't want to ask what he used before. And I learned something too. I had to look up monotheism.

Dwight asks Phyllis why is she marrying Andy.

"Angela is not really a risk taker. And Andy is not really a risk."

Michael and Holly leave work for the night later after everyone else, but Holly says she left her keys upstairs and they go back in. This was actually Holly's way of getting the camera crew out of the office building so she could attack Michael in the stairway. What a girl.

In the morning we find out the office has been robbed. Someone left the door to the building unlocked. Hmmmm who were the last two in the building. Two little lovers I would guess.

Jim finds on his work answering machine a message from Pam. She went out with friends the night before and accidentally called his phone leaving a message of her drinking and partying.

Jim listening to message, "The future mother of my children".

Now quite an awwwww moment there from Jim. But also quite a showing of security on his part to be okay with his fiance partying it up with others in NYC late in the night.

Phyllis tells Dwight he needs to give Angela an ultimatum, pick him or Andy. Dwight gives Angela to 6:14pm to decide on the buffoon or "this" as he points to his lovely self.

Michael decides to throw Crime Aid, to auction off items and services to raise money to get back the things the office and the employee lost in the robbery. Michael decides to draw in the people to auction off Bruce Springsteen tickets.

Holly "He knows how to get things. He got me."
Michael "Twice".

C.R.I.M.E. A.I.D. Crime Reduces Innocence Makes Everyone Angry I Declare.

Michael makes his entrance to his favorite Bruce Springsteen song "The Heart Of Rock N Roll".

Darryl "Mike gave me a list of top ten Bruce Springsteen songs. Three of them were Huey Lewis and The News. One was Tracy Chapman Fast Car, and my personal favorite Short People."

The items auctioned

  • A yoga lesson from Holly Flax - which no one bids on, so Michael buys it for $300.00

  • To go out with Darryl and the guys in the warehouse right now for a beer - which Jim anxiously bids $5.00 and Darryl says sold. So they all leave.

  • Creed "all inclusive" a priceless item in itself.

  • Kevin will do your taxes, federal and state. No one bids, Kevin storms off the stage.

  • Hank, the security guy, Doyle plays the blues CD's.

  • David Wallace, the CEO of Dunder Mifflin, shows up and auctions off a weekend at his place in Martha's Vineyard.

  • Michael tells everyone his BS tickets were stole. Take a wild guess if they ever really existed.

  • Phyllis auctions off a hug. A bidding war starts on this between Bob Vance, her husband from Vance Refrigeration, and Dwight, paying her back for helping him. Bob wins $1000.00
Michael hits the gavel on the table it squeaks.

Michael" What the hell is that?"
Phyllis "That was the only gavel I could find."
Michael "It squeaks when you bang it. That's what she said."

Single handed the best That's What She Said ever on this show. I must have used it at least 5 times in the last week.

While at the bar, Jim runs into Roy, Pam's ex fiance. The awkwardness ensues.

Roy "Relax, I'm not gonna hit you." Guess Jim thinks he overpaid on his $5.00 bid now.
Jim later tells Roy they are engaged. He congratulates them. Jim tells him she is happy and tells him about her going out last night.

Jim "Last night she was out with her friends until 8am".
Roy "Wow, I thought you were her friend".

Ouch. This not only hurt me but hurt Jim. Next scene is Jim in his car driving to NYC. "I felt like I should see Pam." Right before he is to turn onto the highway for NYC, he turns the car back around "No, I'm not that guy and we are not that couple." Good for you Jim, but in my opinion Pam should be doing more to prove that on her end too. Just saying. But then I have always had my opinion that Jim puts much more into their relationship than Pam does, even when they were just friends.

Angela lets Dwight's deadline pass. She has chosen Andy, Dwight is devastated. Phyllis tells Dwight he has to move on now. Dwight accuses Phyllis of just trying to secure her place as head of the party planning committee.

The office raises $1803.00, surprisingly. Michael kisses Holly in the warehouse at the end.

But they are not alone, David Wallace sees them kiss. David "No, I did not know Michael was dating Holly."

Uh 0h, the CEO catching HR and the manager kissing. This cannot be good.
